Is this what you’re seeing?
If your site is doing any of these, you’re in the right place. Seeing something different? Tell me what’s happening and I’ll let you know if this is the right fix.
A “critical error” message
Your site just says “There has been a critical error on this website.” and nothing else.
A blank white screen
Pages load as an empty white screen, sometimes called the WordPress “white screen of death”.
Locked out of WordPress admin
You can’t log in to the dashboard any more. Your password won’t work, or the login page keeps reloading.
Broken after a plugin update
You installed or updated a plugin, and the site broke straight away.
Layout broken after an update
After a theme or WordPress update, pages look jumbled, menus have gone or the design has changed.
A database connection error
The site shows “Error establishing a database connection”. The database is where WordPress keeps your pages and settings.
500 or 503 errors
Visitors see “500 Internal Server Error” or “503 Service Unavailable” instead of your site.
Too many redirects or “not secure”
The browser says the page “redirected you too many times”, or warns visitors your site is “not secure”.
Before you do anything else
A few minutes now can stop a small problem getting bigger, and help me find the cause sooner.
-
Don’t keep deleting and reinstalling plugins
Deleting a plugin can delete its settings too, and each attempt makes the original cause harder to find.
-
Don’t restore an old backup without saving the site as it is now
Restoring over the top can wipe out recent orders, enquiries and changes, along with the clues to what went wrong.
-
Note what you changed just before it broke
Which plugin, theme or setting, and roughly when. It’s often the quickest route to the cause.
-
Screenshot any error message
The exact wording tells me where to look first.
What a WordPress repair includes
I’m Peter, and I fix broken WordPress sites for small businesses across the UK from my base in Reading, Berkshire. When you order a repair, you deal with me from start to finish.
A broken site looks alarming, but the cause is usually one specific thing: a plugin that clashes with another after an update, a theme that doesn’t suit a newer version of WordPress, or a setting that’s been changed. I find that cause and fix it properly, rather than switching things off until the error goes away.
Before I change anything, I take a full backup of your site, so there’s always a copy to go back to. While I work, I’ll keep you updated by WhatsApp, phone or email, whichever you prefer.
Included in every repair
- Finding the problem: what broke, and why
- Up to 90 minutes of fixing, which covers most repairs
- A full backup before I touch anything
- A check that the rest of your site still works before I hand it back
- Updates by WhatsApp, phone or email, whichever suits you
- A plain-English note: what broke, what I did, and how to stop it happening again
- Any WordPress site, whoever built it

How it works
1
Order and tell me what happened
Order online, then tell me what you’re seeing and what changed just before it broke. A screenshot of any error helps.
2
Give me access
You add me as a user in WordPress, so you never need to send me your password. If you can’t get into WordPress at all, I’ll show you how to give access through the company you pay for your website, for example Hostinger or GoDaddy.
3
I find and fix the problem
I take a full backup first, then track down the cause and fix it. If it’s a bigger job than expected, I stop and check with you before going further.
4
You get a plain-English note
What broke, what I did, and how to stop it happening again.
Your site and your business stay private
Fixing a site can mean seeing orders, customer details or pages that aren’t public yet. This is how I handle that.
-
Confidential by default
What I see on your site, and anything you tell me, stays between us.
-
Your NDA, signed first
If you’d like a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), I’ll sign yours before you share anything.
-
Your password stays yours
You add me as a user with my own login, and you can remove me when the job’s done.
-
A backup before any change
A full copy of your site is taken before I change anything.

Stop it happening again

WordPress repair questions
How quickly can you start?
If your site is down or your checkout has stopped working, I’ll acknowledge it within 4 hours during support hours (9:00 to 17:30, Monday to Friday). Anything else is acknowledged by the next business day. If it can’t wait, add priority when you order (£49 extra) and I’ll start within 2 working hours.
How much does it cost to fix my WordPress site?
Most repairs are a fixed £119, which covers finding the problem and up to 90 minutes of fixing it. Priority, where I start within 2 working hours, is £49 extra. I’m not VAT registered, so there’s no VAT to add.
What if it takes longer than 90 minutes?
Most repairs fit in that time. If yours won’t, I’ll stop and tell you what’s wrong and what it would cost to finish before going further. You’re never charged more without agreeing first.
What if you can’t fix it?
I’ll be straight with you. If a problem can’t be fixed, or fixing it properly would mean rebuilding part of the site, I’ll tell you why and what your options are before you spend more.
I can’t log in at all. Can you still help?
Yes. I can work on your site through the company you pay for your website, for example Hostinger or GoDaddy. That’s your “hosting” company: the one that keeps your site online. I’ll show you step by step how to give me access there, and you won’t need to send me your password.
Do I need to give you my password?
No. You add me as a user in WordPress with my own login, so your password stays yours. You can remove me as soon as the job’s done.
Will I lose anything?
I take a full backup of your site before I change anything, so there’s always a copy of how it was when I started. If something has already gone missing, tell me what and when, and I’ll check what can be recovered.
Do you work on sites you didn’t build?
Yes. Whoever built your site, I’ll get familiar with how it’s set up, including any custom theme or plugins, before changing anything.
My site has been hacked. Is this the right service?
Not quite. If your site is sending visitors to other sites, showing spam pages you didn’t create, or Google is warning people about it, it needs a malware clean-up. That’s a separate job at a fixed £149. Get a hacked site cleaned up at websitefix.uk.
